SWE Hell for Lycra Review August 28th 2010 was the date, Bonar Hall, Dundee was the place and with talent from all over, Hell For Lycra VII was on. But don't worry if you missed it because good ole Justin Crow here has the full run down. So get the coffee, put your feet up and get comfy, Because Hell For Lycra VII was definatly one for the record books.
The event was a full day extravaganza with Ted Dibiase given a Q+A and Autograph session between 2pm and 4pm. Original WWE DIva "Sunny" Tammy Lynn Sytch was meant to be with us aswell, but due to a family emergency earlier in the week, she had to pull out. However she did leave a message for the fans on the night and it is a promise from SWE management...SHE WILL BE AT A FUTURE SHOW!!! Tammy herself, wants to come to Scotland and we want her to come to Scotland so it will happen and, as she said to the fans herself, "Whatever Sunny wants, Sunny gets!"
So, as darkness fell around Dundee, The lights were up in the Bonar Hall and the doors were open. Emerald Sunday rocked the joint as the fans were getting to their seats. Their 5 song set list definatly got the crowd in the right mood and that energy kept on right through the night. The guys were awesome and hopefully this wont be the last the SWE World see of the Kirriemuir lads.
So the night got underway with a tag match as former SWE Tag Team Champions, Sterling Oil took on The MegaPals. Oil lost the championship at last years event and were determained to ensure that this outing was more in their favor. Joined once again at ringside by Richard R Russell and Dave Mallice, it was more of a 4 on 2 affair. This gave the Sterling brothers a bit of added confidence and went in with all guns blazing, however Mr News and Randy Valentine were ready for this and as the brothers went for one of their usual double team efforts, they were left in...lets just say quite an embarriising position. This gave The MegaPals the break they were waiting on and although their oppenents did mange to get back a couple of times, a failed big splash attempt off the top rope by William Sterling gave the pals the opertunity and took it to pick up the first win of the night. (The MegaPals, Mr News and Randy Valentine defeat Sterling Oil, Alan and William Sterling)
Now that the night was officially underway, SWE General Manager, "The Solution" Ian Black came down to the ring and gave his personal welcome to the capacity crowd, and then to the man himself. WWE Hall of Famer, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase. Surrendering the ring to the legend, The million dollar man went on to tell the crowd about his love of Scotland. His personal facebook page has a picture of him in a kilt from last year. He is now a lover of Haggis, and has been known to have the occasional glass of...Irn Bru. However, the momment was short lived as Tenacious Johnny Lyons and Damien invaded the ring. The pair, who like to call themselves Tenacious Sin, had the brass to state that Hell For Lycra was about the young guns and up and coming stars of wrestling not "old relics" like Dibiase. Well, anyone who saw Monday Night Raw earlier this year would have seen the slap that Million Dollar Man gave his son after his cheek. Well that was a light tap compared to the slap that echoed around the Bonar Hall as the taste left Lyons mouth. But when Damien tried to save his partner, and got a Million Dollar Dream for his troubles, I think it is save to say, so much for the "old relic". Just as Lyons was getting back to his feet, the Flying Scotsmen joined their friend in the ring and with the numbers no longer in their favor, Tenacious Sin headed for the hills. However this wasnt the last we saw of these 5 men, and definatly Dibiase would play a bigger part later in the night.
The second match of the night saw the young high flyer Bingo Ballance take on former SWE Heavyweight Champion Scotty Swift. Ballance has performed all over Europe and that night he certainly showed us why. The match was fast paced and high flying from the start with the action being in the ring, out the ring and up the aisle, hey they dont call Ballance the "Zenith of Zero Gravity" for nothing. Both men got the upper hand at serveral points but Swift allowed this to get to him and when his frustration got the better of him, Ballance hit his G-17 finisher and picked up the second win of the evening. (Bingo Ballance, Dublin-Ireland defeats Scotty Swift, Aberdeen-Scotland)
There was no time for rest as the action continued into the nights third match as SWE World favourite Kongo Kev took on the moster DEATHROW. Take it from me, when DEATHROW came to the ring the atmosphere of the night changed rapidly. To look into his eyes where like looking into hell itself and I was glad to get out of there once the Urban Jungle VIP was out. I certainly didn't envy referree Bryan Mckeller who officiated not only this match, but the whole night. Kongo Kev however kept his wits about him and although the monster did control the match, his size was to be his downfall as Kongo picked up a lucky win. Needless to say the Monster wasnt happy and made his frustration known before leaving the Bonar Hall. ("The Urban Jungle VIP" Kongo Kev - Kirkcaldy, Fife defeats "The Monster" Deathrow - Aaronville Penetentary, USA)
With us all a little shook up, it was time for the first main event of the night. With the SWE Tag Team Championship on the line Tenacious Sin took on the Flying Scotsmen. The action broke out right from the start that I didnt even get a chance to announce the teams to the sold out crowd. Tenacious Sin jumped the champs as they were entertaining the auditorium. It was pandermonium as the action even entered out to the crowd. but eventually the match regained order as Claymore was seperated from his partner, even when Bravehart did manage to get in, the refs back was turned and disallowed the tag. Tenacious Sin controlled the match and eventually it was too much and they picked up...I hate to say..a well deserved victory and we have new tag team champs. However, the action after the match caught us all by surprise. With the Flying Scotsmen consoling each other in the ring, Ted Dibiase made a silent entrance to the hall, at ring side, he flashed some of the good old green, and out of nowhere, Claymore delivered a huge kick to his partners head. The Million Dollar man even rubbed salt in the wound by stuffing a trade mark dollar down Braveharts throat. So what now for BraveHart? Well after the event, he vowed to get Claymore and Dibiase for their actions. Claymore at the moment is on vacation paid for by the milion dollar man and I would hate to be him when he returns. (Tenacious Sin Defeat Flying Scotsmen to become new SWE Tag Team Champions).
It was at this point the show broke for intermission and after these shocking events, it was needed. so perhaps its fitting to have a little intermission of our own. The second half kicked off with gold once again on the line as the SWE Future Division Championship was on the line in a 6 man Belt on a Pole match. The belt was suspended above the ring and the first competitor to retreive it was victorious. Up and coming Polish wrestler, Kamil Aleksander, "All Night" Ian Ambrose, Crusher Craib, Dave Mallice and (with Kongo Kev replacing Austin Dynamo in the earlier match) one of the newest members of the SWE family, Martyn Stallion all took on Bryan Starr. As the match got under way, it soon broke into 3 seperate matches which just made the action harder to follow. Aleksander was using the ring to his advantage, flying all over and all out. Stallion and Craib kept each busy for a while and Starr and Ambrose were just in each others faces the whole time. However, as the match drew to a close, Ambrose was out of sight on the other side of the ring, there was bodies all over, and Craib and Starr in the ring. Starr tried to reason with the mysterious one but Crusher was having none of it and delivered a huge bomb just to prove it. However, in the end, the match was just too much for all but Starr and Ambrose. With only himself left standing in the middle of the ring, Bryan Starr began to climb the ropes to the pole. But he (and I'll admit even myself) had forgotten about Ian Ambrose who had been recovering on the outside. As Starr climbed the ropes, Ambrose sscuttled up the outside, rattled Starrs head of the pole knocking him back into ring and leaving "All Night" Ian Ambrose to claim the belt and pick up a long earned win and become the new Future Diivision Champion.
His celebration however was short lived as SWE Heavyweight Champion Chaz Pheonix came down to the ring and attacked the new champion. As Ambrose lay in the ring, Pheonix went on to tell the SWE World how the only belt that mattered was the heavyweight championship and that the only man who mattered, was Chaz Pheonix. But, As he returned his attention to Ian Ambrose, his challenger and former comrade, Arron Blazer soon sent him running through the crowd and joined his friend in celebrating his new championship.
The next match of the night saw Matt Vaughn return to Dundee to take on the animalistic - TiTAN. However, this was a different Matt Vaugh than the one from BonarBrawl. Earlier this year, while working for a wrestling promotion in Germany, Vaughn broke his wrist. But Vaughn saw this not as a hindance, but a moment of clarity. Realising what the fans had done for him through out his career and how he had treated them in return, he decided it was time for a change. Goodbye to the Mountain Warrior, That cruel, self centred, arrogant son of a gun and Hello to the Iron Man, a fun loving, crowd loving and respectful guy. He even took the time to get some props in for referee Bryan McKeller. But he certainly had his hands full as the match got underway against the pro wrestler, martial artist and mma/cage fighter TiTAN. Both men had the upper hand at many points however Vaughn definatly had to work harder for his. Eventually though the opertunity was there for the big kick, but as he set it up, TiTAN was ready and dodge it and regained momentum. But dont count out the Mountain Ash native just yet, out of nowhere he connected the kick to knock out the big man and get a hard earned but well deserved win.
What happened next was really something to be seen to be believed, but I'll try to describe it as best I can. Mr News took over duties on the mic to announce the TAY FM Battle of the Presenters. Stuart Webster, yes "Wake up with Webster" Stuart Webster took on his co host Andy "Funboy" Robbie to see who was the better DJ. Plus, Mr News even managed to ge this team mate Randy Valentine to be the special referee. However, Webster and Robbie didnt have any wrestling attire, but the MegaPals had already thought of this and the two competitors donned their special attire to compete for dominance....Sumo Suits. In a best of 3 rounds match with the first to fall losing the round, it didnt take long for the pair to get a round each. The third round had to get restarted after both men came in with all guns blazing and squashing Valentine for his troubles. But after all was said and done, it was Stuart Webster proving not only he was the better host but also why they call it "Wake up with Webster". (Why dont you Wake up with Webster, every weekday morning on Tay FM)
But, with the fun and frolics over, it was time to once again get serious, and it dont get more serious than the SWE Heavyweight Championship. The main event was upon us already as the most hated man in independent wrestling, Chaz Pheonix took on former Red Devil and comrade, Arron Blazer. Pheonix knew what the young Blairgowrie lad was capable of and set out to slow the young Blazer and drain the energy out of him. However this tactic was just the proof Blazer needed to know that he was already in the head of Pheonix. He soon picked up the pace and kept the momentum on the rise. This simply forced Pheonix to get desperate and soon seeked the assistance of his old friend - the steel chair. But, like the Red Devil, the friend was to become the enemy and as Blazer missed the swing, the chair bounced off the top rope and whacked Pheonix straight of the face. With the big man down, Blazer locked in the crossface and forced his old mentor and the man who had treated him like garbage from day one, to tap out and therefore surrender his championship. Thats right, Arron Blazer is the new SWE Heavyweight Champion. A momment which simply got a bit too emotional for the new champ. So as general manger Ian Black accompanied the champ back to the locker room. The Show came to an end.
But what does this mean for Scottish Wrestling Entertainment? What revenge will Bravehart get against Claymore and Ted Dibiase? How long will all the new Champions keep their belts? Will Webster stop given Robbie a hard time? To find out and to keep up to date on all things SWE, keep right here on the SWE Facebook page or check out the official SWE website - www.sweonline.co.uk The next time SWE will be in action will be October 8th at Ardlar, Dundee. However, we are proud to be lending our support not only to the Braemar Day Event in Blairgowrie on September 4th, but also to TAY FMs CASH FOR KIDS event on September 11th. Check the website for more info on these shows. I want to pass my thanks not only to all the folks at the Bonar Hall, your hospitality that day was amazing, to Emerald Sunday for opening the show, those guys are gonna be huge so remember where you saw them first, But most importantly to all the SWE fans for SELLING OUT Hell For Lycra VII. The show raised the bar and its a challenge that SWE are proud to face because remember with Scottish Wrestling Entertainment - The Past is History, The Future is now and the best......is STILL yet to come!!!!
